DIY Mother’s Day Clay Jewelry Dish

If you have no idea what to get your mom or grandma, then this is a really sweet idea. I especially love these DIY Mother’s Day Clay Jewelry Dish as a gift from the kids because they can make it themselves. It’s an easy way for them to use their hands and make something that will actually get some use. I am taking my rings on and off all the time in the kitchen and need a place to put them!
Tips for DIY Mother’s Day Clay Jewelry Tray
*The clay won’t spread or change shape, so if there are any lines or undesired marks on the clay, remove them before baking.
*Make sure to roll the clay in your hands before starting. This makes it easier to work with.
*Corn starch help to roll out the clay! If you don’t have this you can use baby powder, but I don’t recommend that if you are making these with younger kids.
*Follow the baking instructions for the clay. Each brand could be different.
*I also recommend using an oven thermometer. This will tell you if the temperature in our oven off.
Materials:
Cookie Cutter
Baking Sheet
Sand Paper; optional
Acrylic Paints; optional
Directions
Roll a handful of clay in your hands until the clay becomes pliable
Use your hands to make the clay into a disk shape
Sprinkle a little corn starch onto a covered work surface. Place the clay over the corn starch and sprinkle a bit more of the corn starch.
Place another sheet of parchment paper over the top of the piece of clay, and use a rolling pin to flatten out the clay to a little over 1/4 inch; you can also roll directly onto the clay if needed.
Use the sharp side of the cookie cutter to cut out the desired shape.
Add any lettering to the clay with the letter stamps.
Cut a piece of parchment about the size of the shape and lay it over a bowl similar in size.
Drape the parchment into or over the bowl (depending on what shape you are doing) and drape the clay shape over the parchment.
Bake according to the clay’s package instructions.
When baked and cooled, remove clay from the bowl and gently sand the edges to get rid of any roughness if needed.
Paint your favorite design using acrylic paints; optional.
