There is nothing like homemade fudge from Northern Michigan! If you aren't familiar with Mackinac Island, allow me to enlighten you. It is a small island off the coast of Northern Michigan where no cars are allowed, only golf carts and carriages. It has a wonderful, wholesome, old world charm that doesn't exist anywhere else that I know of. Click here for more information on Mackinac Island!
Mackinac Island is also known for having the best fudge!! The Original Murdick’s Fudge has been around since 1887, so they have mastered the art of fudge making, and this holiday season they are doing something really special. Since the island closes down in the winter, so does the fudge making, but this year they opened their doors to make their one of a kind fudge for the holiday season.
I always think giving food as a gift is a good idea, especially when it is something unique and special. I want to share this information so that you can order your own box of The Original Murdick’s Fudge From Northern Michigan’s Mackinac Island.

“We’re excited to be back on Mackinac Island to make fresh fudge for just 17 days. Only a handful of places are open on the island during this time of year so this is a very special occasion for us – and for many year-round island residents – as we fire up our fudge kitchens right after Thanksgiving,” said Bob Benser, Jr. owner of Original Murdick’s Fudge.
“We have been asked many times over the years by our customers to ship freshly made fudge during the holidays. So for the third year in a row, we decided to do just that,” Benser said.
HOW TO ORDER: Original Murdick’s Fudge will begin taking holiday orders on Oct. 28. Gift boxes will be shipped by FedEx, direct from Mackinac Island, December 1-17 with guaranteed delivery in time for Christmas. Visit www.originalmurdicksfudge.com to place holiday orders.
MAKE IT MERRY: Six holiday gift-box options can include not only a choice of Original Murdick’s 12 Mackinac Island fudge flavors, but also three varieties of peanut brittle, caramel corn, and English toffee. All sweets are made with only the freshest, all-natural ingredients, most from Michigan, including the sugar, butter, cream and maple sugar.
Each batch of Original Murdick’s fudge starts in a copper kettle and is artfully created with attention to indoor, outdoor and marble countertop temperatures, and length of time/temperature required for cooking, boiling, stirring, cooling and shaping. The art of fudge making at Murdick’s also requires skilled fudge makers to perform a specific and timely “paddling” technique when shaping the delectable fudge into loaves.
Blend a tried-and-true recipe with handcrafted, precise techniques — along with a temperate Great Lakes climate — and you get pure excellence.
“Fresh Mackinac Island fudge, brittle, caramel corn, and toffee … there’s no better way to say Happy Holidays! Our gift boxes are carefully prepared and decorated with holiday flare. We even include a northern Michigan evergreen sprig in many boxes,” Benser said.
