What’s not to love about Pink Popcorn!?

With Valentine’s Day creeping up on us, I thought that I would get a jump-start on getting ready for the holiday! If you are a frequent reader of my blog, you know that I am a holiday fanatic, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. I love drenching my house in pink and red, and putting hearts on everything. It makes me think of the movie Steel Magnolias when Sally Field describes Julia Roberts’ wedding as pepto bismol, because there was so much pink! One of the best movies ever…

Anyway! Pink popcorn came to mind when I started doing a project with Orville Redenbacher. Even though the popcorn started out as the snack for our Valentine’s craft, it ended up being part of it. We ended up with a “You make my heart POP” Valentine. When we were done with the craft, and put everything away, my son said to me “that was fun mom!” My heart melted!

Popcorn always makes me think of the popcorn balls that my mom used to make for us growing up. She adds in a little brown sugar to make the popcorn balls extra rich and gooey. Now that I use homemade marshmallows, popcorn balls are not as easy. Because I don’t put corn syrup in my homemade marshmallows, there are no stabilizers in there to help the ingredients stay together in the shape of a ball. SO I actually allow the sticky marshmallow, brown sugar, popcorn, pretzel, M&M mixture cool on a sheet of wax paper. It tastes just as good as popcorn balls, it is just in a freeform version. If you use regular store-bought marshmallows, you can shape this mixture into adorable popcorn balls!

This popcorn has everything you want in a snack! It is sweet, salty, crunchy, and chocolatey…all in one bite!

How to make perfect Pink Popcorn with Pretzels and M&Ms

*Add the food coloring into the butter, marshmallow, and brown sugar mixture once it is melted, before adding in the other ingredients.

*If using homemade marshmallows, pour the mixture out onto a sheet of wax paper that has been sprayed with cooking spray to cool.

*If using store-bought marshmallows, spray your hands with cooking spray and shape the mixture into a ball shape if desired. You can also pour onto wax paper that has been sprayed with cooking spray if a freeform version is desired.

*Once the mixture has cooled, you can break it up a bit with your hands and serve! These make cute Valentines as well.
