Chocolate Sunbutter Spread
If you spend any time on Pinterest you can’t help but notice that Nutella is everywhere! I have always been a huge fan of Nutella (who isn’t) but after I realized I have a slight nut allergy I have cut it out of my diet. So in the mission to find replacements I decided just to make my own! Sunflower seeds are a great addition to anyone’s daily routine. (Read here about the benefits) I put them in my daily salad and even made my own sunflower seed spread to use instead of peanut butter. For this Chocolate Sunbutter Spread you can use store bought sunflower seed spread or make your own. This recipe is so easy and soooo good! I like it even better than Nutella because I can control how chocolatey it is, how sweet it is, and add any other flavors I like. Instead of sweetening it up with sugar I used raw honey. The floral flavor of the honey adds really nice dimension to the spread and a little bit of vanilla gives it some warmth and gourmet sweetness. Yum!!!
Here’s what you need:
1 12oz container of Sunflower Seed Butter (no added ingredients.. just sunflower seeds and salt)
3-4 tablespoons of honey (raw is best)
2-3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (I like Dutch Process)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
You can add anything else in this that you like! The ingredient amounts may change based on the spread that you get. If it becomes too sticky then add a bit of sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. If you like it more on the chocolatey side then add more cocoa powder and if you like it sweeter add more honey. You can customize this any way you like.
*All you need to do is place all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix it well
*I put it back in the original container and store in the refrigerator
It’s so great on toast and I like to top with with berries. Try it on an apple or banana as well!
