Construction Themed Birthday Party
I vowed that after I did a big party for my son’s 1st birthday last year, I wouldn’t do it again for his second birthday. Well, I sort of changed my mind last minute. His birthday was on a Friday, and I thought he might want to play with all of his friends. Sooooo, last minute I decided to decorate (with the help of my parents), make a cake, and invite his friends over. Needless to say, it still involved a little bit of stress, but definitely came together in the end. It goes to show that even a last minute party can work.
It has been extremely hot in Southern California, even in the beach cities. Between my chocolate not setting on the bon bons, and the frosting melting all over my cake, I managed to get it all together in time for everyone to come over. Luckily my parents were around to help me decorate while I was baking. All of the decorations were from Amazon and Target. The only thing that wasn’t is this fringed backdrop, which I will share more info on later this month.

On our patio, we simply tied some balloons onto orange cones that I got from Amazon. Thank god for Amazon Prime! We also placed a bunch of my son’s toys along the patio, along with some “caution” tape (also from Amazon).
I made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and created the “dirt” from chocolate teddy grahams that I smashed up in a ziplock bag with a rolling pin. I simply used my hands to press the cookie crumbs to the side of the cake. Then, topped the cake with these cute little construction toys, also from Amazon.
For the dessert table, I had balloons, construction plates, another sign, and more cones. The table was covered with a plastic orange tablecloth that I got from Target, along with the orange forks, knives, and spoons.
