DIY Chocolate Leprechaun Hats
How cute are these little leprechaun hats? The magic is in the chocolate. ALL you need to do is coat a marshmallow and a cookie with some candy melts (aka candy coating chocolate) and that’s it! How fun!
I love when DIY and food comes together to create unique treats for special occasions. My kids went nuts over these, but, truth be told, my husband is a sucker for any dessert that has marshmallows in it and he has been enjoying these as much as (if not more than) the kids!
Supplies:
Circle cookies; I used the Keebler Fudge Stripes
Marshmallows
Fork
Toothpicks
Chocolate candy melts (aka candy coating chocolate) in green and dark chocolate
Coconut oil; about 1 teaspoon per cup of chocolate if needed
Wax paper
Sprinkles, optional
Tip: I cut the yellow part of a rainbow candy strip and used it as the buckle
Directions:
Line a cutting board or tray with wax paper.
Place the cookies and marshmallows onto the wax paper.
Place the green chocolate in a heatproof bowl and melt according to package instructions.
Tip: If the chocolate is too thick, add in the coconut oil. It will help it become more liquidy and pourable.
Dip the cookies into the melted chocolate and use a fork to flip it to coat the entire cookie. Place the cookie on the fork and tap on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate, then place on the wax paper. Repeat with the rest of the cookies
Stick a toothpick into a marshmallow and dip it into the green chocolate to coat, then place it on the wax paper. Use the fork to help remove the toothpick while the chocolate is still melted.
Repeat with the rest of the marshmallows.
Allow the chocolate to set. Timing can vary based on the weather.
Melt the dark chocolate in a bowl according to package instructions.
Dip the marshmallow into the dark chocolate just so that it covers the bottom and create a small line at the bottom of the marshmallow to create the detail in the hat. Then, place the marshmallow on top of the center of the cookie.
For sprinkle detail, add the sprinkles to the chocolate before placing it on the cookie.
To create the buckle detail, cut a small rectangle out of the yellow part of the rainbow candy and place it on the dark chocolate. If the chocolate has already hardened, add some additional chocolate to the yellow candy like glue.
Allow the hats to set up. The chocolate will harden completely.
